Contact lenses

Contact lenses

A fitting is an exam of its own: the lens has to suit the eye as well as the prescription.

Your contact lens prescription is yours. We give you a copy when the fitting is finished, and you can fill it with any seller. If a seller calls to verify it, we confirm it.

Contact lenses carry risks, including eye infection. The doctor explains them at the fitting, along with how to clean and wear your lenses.

What happens at the visits

A fitting usually takes more than one visit.

  1. 01

    Step 1: Exam

A comprehensive exam first, so we know your prescription and how healthy your eyes are.

  2. 02

    Step 2: Measure and choose

We measure the curve of the front of the eye and choose a lens type and size.

  3. 03

    Step 3: Trial lenses

You try a pair in the office and walk out wearing them, so you know how they feel.

  4. 04

    Step 4: Lens handling lesson

We teach clean hands, insertion, removal and cleaning, with a parent present for children.

  5. 05

    Step 5: Follow-up

We check the fit, comfort and the surface of the eye, then finish the prescription.

Billing and what to bring

  • How it is billed

The exam is billed as described on How fees work. A contact lens fitting fee and the lenses are often separate from the exam, and a vision plan may have a contact lens benefit. We give you an estimate before you start.
