The schedule

What each visit covers

A myopia plan is a run of short visits with the same measurements, so each one can be set beside the last.

The schedule below is typical. Your doctor sets yours after the evaluation and changes it if your child's eyes or your family's needs change.

Visit by visit

  1. 01

    Step 1: Evaluation

About an hour and a quarter. The baseline.

    • Prescription, with focusing relaxed by drops

    • Eye length

    • Curve of the front of the eye

    • Eye health

    • The options, side by side

  2. 02

Step 2: Fitting or first drops

About 45 minutes. Only if you choose an option.

    • Lens handling or drop lesson

    • Fit and comfort check

    • Written care instructions

  3. 03

    Step 3: First follow-up

About 30 minutes, a few weeks later.

    • Comfort and vision

    • Lens fit or response to drops

    • Your questions

  4. 04

    Step 4: Every six months

About 40 minutes. The visit that shows the trend.

    • Prescription

    • Eye length compared with last time

    • A talk about continuing, changing or stopping

  5. 05

    Step 5: Once a year

About an hour. Adds a full eye health exam.

    • Front and back of the eye

    • Imaging or a dilated check

    • Updated glasses or lens prescription

  • Sudden vision loss, flashes of light, a curtain over your vision, a chemical splash or an eye injury needs care now. Call our office right away or go to an emergency room. If you can't reach us, call 911.

Billing and what to bring

  • How it is billed

Visits about myopia are usually billed to your medical insurance, and the routine yearly exam to your vision plan. Your plan decides what it pays. We check your benefits before the visit and give a written estimate for anything you pay yourself.

    How fees work
  • What to bring

    • Your child's current glasses and lenses

    • Insurance cards

    • Notes on how the lenses or drops are going

    • Your questions

About the schedule

What if we miss a visit?

Call us and we will rebook. The longer the gap, the less the next set of numbers can tell us, so we try to keep the schedule.

Can the schedule change?

Yes. If your child's eyes change faster than expected, or the routine is hard to keep, the doctor adjusts the plan.
